Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. It’s one of those clear and cool perfect mornings so I took my time in the presence of my Mighty God and I’m savoring it all from the inside-out. The brightness of the sunrise reminded me of the darkness of the eclipse yesterday, and I couldn’t help but wonder how many people miss out on the miracle of each new day without the benefit of an historic solar event. Today is just another day to most of the world, but it’s just as miraculous to me and it’s getting my undivided attention on this extraordinary day because I know that one day soon I’ll look up and see the the Son of God. Isn’t that the way you look at each new day too?It’s pretty amazing to live in a time when things like the solar eclipse can be predicted and all the world can be put on notice of its coming long before it takes place. We had maps and times and protective eye-wear, and there was no question about what time of day this amazing solar event could best be viewed. We had television coverage for weeks before hand and all throughout the eclipse, and the virtual highway was buzzing with photos and videos all day long and into the night. There were eclipse parties and family gatherings and entire offices closed so that all employees could have the chance to witness the rare eclipse. There was cheering and toasting in crowds across America and the “wows” could be felt from one corner of this country to the next. For just a moment or two the sky went dark as the moon covered the sun, and outside of the human factor; the world was deathly quiet before, during and after this epic event. Nature didn’t have the benefit of all the news coverage and the buzz leading up to the darkness, and it was abundantly clear from the front porch of this old farm that nature was rattled by the change as it stood still and silent.
One day, in the not so distance future, it won’t just be nature that is rattled by the change they see in the sky; much of the world will be too when the Son of God shows up with no warning at all. No meteorologist or astronomer will be able to predict the day or the hour, and the world will not be put on notice by the local news. No priest or pastor or one who claims to know the future will be able to predict the time of His coming; He’ll just show up without warning at all. The Son of God won’t be showing up to entertain the world by His presence and no special eye-wear will shield the world from Him. He’ll be showing up to gather His people, and in the blink of an eye; people like me will cease to exist in this world at all. In that very moment, there will planes without pilots and cars without drivers and classrooms without teachers and families without loved ones. No amount of shouting and screaming that took place during the solar eclipse can hold-a-candle to what the world will sound like when the Son of God shows up and He gathers up His Own. Like a father ringing the dinner bell to call his children home, the Son of God will sound a Trumpet to call His Children Home to be with Him forever, and no amount of doubting in the world will change the fact that this day will come without warning at all. All the doubters and all the mockers will have something in common eventually…every single one of them will bow and in His presence and declare that He is Lord one day.
I’ll be ready when the greatest “solar” miracle in the history of the world takes place and I’ll be looking toward the Heavens in anticipation of the Son of God coming back for me. We may not know the day or the hour of His coming, but we’ve been told about a few things that needed to happen before He’s ready to come back, and they’ve all taken place within my lifetime…so I’m hoping that He’ll come back soon. No matter what; I’ll be ready and I won’t be surprised when He shows up for me. How about you? Will you be ready to see the Son of God with no warning at all?
