Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. It’s bitter cold this morning and whether it snows or not today; it looks and feels like it should. My mornings haven’t been as quiet as I’m used to them being and I’ve missed the silence. It’s in the silence that the loudest messages can be heard and it’s in the silence when we usually hear from God. So, I struggled to find that quiet place and I determined to spend my morning the way I always do…just me and my God. He’s the Living Water and if I go even one day without some quiet time with Him; I thirst. Isn’t that the way it is for you too?
We live in an overstimulated world, and the thought of true “silence” is foreign to most people these days. Some people can’t stand leaving the noise of their lives behind even for a little time with the Living God, and some people can’t stand the silence at all. Some people are scared to be alone and they’re scared of the silence, and if there isn’t some noise or other people to drown out their silence; they’ll crawl under the bed to hide. Why are some people so afraid to be alone and so afraid of the silence? Hmm…sounds like it’s soul-searching time to me.
Some people “meet” with God with Christian music playing in the background the entire time, as if the Living God needs a little entertainment too. But if they ever want to hear from Him in the midst of the music, I guess He’ll have to compete with the artists or shout louder than the music plays. I doubt they’d hear His voice even then because their heart doesn’t care to hear it at all.
For some people, pulling up a Bible app on their smartphone is sufficient to check quiet time off-the-list, but all it takes is a single phone call or text message popping up on the smartphone and their lack of self control will kick-in while that “quiet time” with the Living God takes a back seat to life…for whatever it is that they “just can’t miss”. Carving out time to read on-the-go is one thing. Spending time in silence before the Throne of a Mighty God is another. I’m pretty sure that God doesn’t care if you’re a good multi-tasker…my God refuses to “compete” with anyone or anything else in your life at all, and if you don’t go silent FOR Him, He’ll give you a little Lesson on silence that will rattle your world in return.
At this stage in my life, I realize that I’m perceived as being “high maintenance” and “old fashioned”; but I don’t care what others think. When I spend time with a loved one or a friend or a client, they get my full attention and I expect theirs back. I have self control,so there is no fear of losing my attention to a smartphone, and I won’t be adding a source of noise to fill in where the conversation stops. When people speak to me I look deep into their eyes and I don’t merely hear their words; I listen to every single one. Most people feel good when they spend time with me because I make the rest of the world around me “go silent” just for them. So…my “high maintenance”, “old fashioned” self understands the sounds of silence and all of the Sweetness that comes when the rest of the world is tuned-out for “quality” time with the Living God, the Prince of Peace, the Wonderful Counselor, Almighty God, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the Great “I am”.
How about you?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. It’s still cold and it’s windy, but with the sun shining across this farm this morning it sure doesn’t appear to be that way at all. This simple little observation lead the way for my time with the Living God today. It served as a sweet reminder to me of how we see things with the eyes, with the heart and with the mind and one can easily “play tricks” on the other if we’re not careful. Isn’t that something you think about too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. It may be cold but it sure is beautiful, and as this new day came to life; it put the icing on the cake of my time with the Living God. It’s an honor to stand before the Throne of the Living God and it’s a privilege to place my requests before Him. It’s a comfort to know that He loves me more than anybody else does and that He’s always there for me. But before I get too carried away with all that I get from my time with Him; I praise Him. No matter what’s going on in my life or what’s NOT going on in my life; I praise Him. Rain or shine, happy or sad, smooth sailing or turmoil; I praise Him. Isn’t that the way it is for you too?

Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. It’s a little too cold for even the bravest to sit outside this morning, so I met with the Living God with a hot cup of coffee in the dining room to enjoy the view from my usual spot. We did a little business on my heart and my thoughts this morning, and I was set Straight by Words from my Instruction Manual. It’s not always easy getting “set straight” by the Living God, but if I want to be on His Leadership Team, then it’s a big part of the Journey. He’s the best Life Coach anybody could ever have. Sometimes He humbles me with Truth, and sometimes He highlights my flaws and sometimes He gives me Marching Orders…and it’s almost always painful when He does. But His Word says “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths”; so acknowledge Him I do…in my Life, in my family and in my work. Isn’t that the way you live your life too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. I met with the Master in front of a warm fire this morning, and my time with Him was all about praise. I have a ton of things to take before the Throne of my God every day, and I have lots of needs to pray for. But today, all my heart could do was praise Him for all that He is and all that He does for me. I know that God doesn’t care about my voice or my lame attempt to
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. I met with the Living God as He woke up the world, and it would be humanly impossible not to be moved by His Majesty on a morning like this one. Lots of people give lots of credit to lots of other things besides a Mighty God for what they see; as if they can easily explain away the universe. But if they look closely at the world around them with a set of eyes eager to take it all in; they’d see that it can’t be explained away as “nature” or “the universe” or something brought forth by some “cosmic boom” or by anything other than the Hand of an Amazing Creator. There’s a big difference between worshiping the planet and worshiping the One who Created the planet, and when it comes to God; that’s a Deal Breaker.
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. It’s the calm after the storm of the Thanksgiving celebration, and this morning I’ve been savoring the memories of one more year of celebration with my loved ones and friends. Only half of my tribe made it to the farm for Thanksgiving this year, but they’ll be in town soon enough for a different kind of celebration and I’m counting the days until we’re all together again. As surely as the seasons around me change, the seasons of life do too, and no amount of wishing can change the course. So I roll-with-the-flow of my life and I give thanks through it all. Isn’t that the way you look at life too?
