Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. This old porch is graced with four flags and they each represent something I stand for. As I sat before God this morning and I looked at those flags still wet with dew, I considered those things that I stand for, and I wondered if what I stand for is as easy for the world to see. It doesn’t matter much if people look at these four flags and they don’t “get” what they represent to me…but it matters a WHOLE lot if people look at my life and they don’t see what I stand for or Who I represent. Isn’t that something that you consider too?
It’s so easy for us to look at the outer edges of a person and to draw our own conclusions about what they stand for by what we see on the outside. Sometimes people attempt to put the world on notice about what they stand for by placing bumper stickers on their cars or by wearing a cross around their necks. Sometimes those things are intended to be gentle reminders and sometimes those things are intended to provoke. Just like the flags hanging on this front porch, if people don’t “get” what they represent; they merely serve as decoration. Sometimes people attempt to make their mark on their world by tattooing their bodies or by piercing the skin in unimaginable ways. But just like the flags hanging on the front porch, if people don’t “get” what they represent; they merely serve as body art. There is no end to what can be done in our attempt to put the world on notice about what we represent, but what we stand for takes a whole lot more than flying a flag over our lives. What we stand for takes action and words and relationship to be seen by the world.
I have a crazy sense of humor and I’ve had a roller coaster life, and if I never spoke up about what I stand for; the world may see me as just someone fun to be around and someone with lots good of stories. But nobody has to be in my presence for long before they see AND hear what I stand for and Who I represent. Some may perceive me to be ONLY interested in fun things and funny things because of my personality. But with just a glimmer of an opportunity to change my Tune to comfort a suffering soul or to speak Words of Wisdom from God; and what I stand for and Who I represent is front-and-center. Some may believe that I can find humor in anything…and there’s a lot of truth to that…and they might hesitate to share their pain with me for fear of me laughing at them. BUT with just a few words about my Life Journey and all of the pain I’ve endured in His Name, and they open up like a flower with no fear of judgment from me. I don’t rely on bumper stickers on my car or a cross around my neck to make a statement to the world about what I Stand for. I live it, I breathe it, I speak it…what I Stand for is a part of me and taking action with Words and relationship is as natural to me as breathing.
I like to think of myself as being a little like those flags that hang on the front porch. Bright and colorful, resilient, able to withstand the winds, flexible, bold and forever making a statement for the world to see. But you’ll never find me being a silent representation of what I Stand for or Who I Represent, and you won’t find me relying on some outward “sign” to make the statement on my behalf. I’m a child of the Living God and there is never a doubt about what I Stand for or Who I Represent.
How about you?

Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. Fall is here to stay and the mornings are colder now, but the heat of the sun and the beauty of the foliage make it all worthwhile to bundle up for a little time on the front porch with my God. The older I get, the more I appreciate the changing seasons because now I see the value in each one. The changing seasons are a sweet reminder to me that not all seasons of my life are the same and they each have Purpose too. No more than I can wish away the cold Fall air or rewind the tape to the summertime, I can’t wish away the Seasons that I endure either. So I’ve learned to be content and resilient through it all. Isn’t that the way you look at your Seasons too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. It was cold and windy this morning so I sat at the kitchen table with a hot cup of coffee in hand while I waited for the Living God to wake up the world around me. My time didn’t have a whole lot of focus this morning and I wasn’t feeling drawn to any particular Message from my Instruction Manual. I talked to my God for a little while, I prayed for a little while and I read for a little while. Although I felt close to Him the way I usually do when I spend time with Him; no message penetrated my heart…UNTIL I looked out the kitchen window as the sun was rising, that is. All I could see on the horizon is what appeared to be like the 3 crosses on Calvary and the image made me weep. What a sweet reminder from my God this morning that all I really need to focus on is the Cross. Isn’t that the way you see it too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. There’s a full schedule waiting for me on this glorious October day, but I found my time to meet with the Living God before all the madness begins, and I because I did; I’ll be prepared for whatever comes my way and I’ll have all the time in the world to do what I need to do. I’m not sure how the rest of the world copes with the sadness and the madness of this dark world without a focus on Him; but I know that I’m powerless and I’m worthless without Him front-and-center. I’m not sure how the rest of the world looks at their role in this thing called “life” but I know that my Life is supposed to revolve around Him first and foremost. I’m not sure how the rest of the world views their responsibility as children of the Living God, but I know that my role is to share the Good News with the world. Is that the way you see your life too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. The Fall temperatures have been warm enough on most mornings to spend my time outside, so outside I stepped with coffee and Bible in hand this morning to meet with my God. My thoughts were as scattered as the clouds in the sky but I was determined to focus on the Light to find my way. So I sat there and I sat there and every other minute my mind jumped to something besides meeting with Him, UNTIL I called out “Here I am, Lord!” and when I did; things became crystal clear for me. My mind is a big part of my Walk in Faith but sometimes my mind can get in my way when it gets filled with so many worthless things. When that happens I do whatever I can to redirect my heart toward the Living God. Isn’t that what you do to get your focus back too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. I met with the Living God when it was still dark outside and as the sun came up in the sky most of my world was masked by the fog. I can’t see the mountains and I can’t see much of the fields, and if I relied on what I can see with my own eyes; I’d doubt their existence at all. But no amount of fog can cause me to doubt, because I’ve seen them and because I love them…they are a part of me, and I can feel them even when they’re shrouded in fog….and so it is with my God. Nothing can cause me to doubt and nothing can dim what I know because I’ve “seen” Him and because I love Him and He lives within me. “He’s the same yesterday and today and forever” and no matter what I see or don’t see with my human eyes; nothing will ever change when it comes to the Living God. Isn’t that the way you see Him too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. Everywhere you look from this old farm you’ll see the signs of the Fall season…from the changing colors to the leaves that have left the trees and are now on the ground. I can enjoy the Work of His Hands from anywhere I sit (on and off the farm), and no matter the season; it all looks good to me. I marvel at His Majesty. He changes the seasons of my Life the same way He changes the seasons in the world around me, and I know that each one has a Divine Purpose for me. As long as I consider each Season to be driven by the King; I’ll keep rolling with the flow and looking for the Good through it all. Isn’t that what you do to?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. I met with the Living God at the break of dawn and it’s almost as if I could hear the voice of the Father as the world around me celebrated this new day. It’s not springtime but you’d never know it from the sounds of the birds. They seem happy with the new morning and they’re staying busy looking for their food. I think we could all learn a few things from the birds when it comes to living each new day for what it is without a focus on what we’ll have tomorrow, and I believe we’d find a whole lot of peace in the process. Doesn’t that sound more appealing to you?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. It’s bright and it’s beautiful and it’s just the kind of morning that propels my heart in to gratitude-mode before I ever formally meet with the Living God. I am forever in awe of the Work of His Hands and I am forever amazed by lessons that can be learned by nature around me. This deer venturing out for breakfast seemed to be reaching high for breakfast as though he knew that soon the higher vegetation would be lost until spring. He was traveling alone and wasting no time as if he wanted to be sure to get his share before anybody else showed up. What a powerful reminder straight from the Throne of my God of what greed looks like.
