Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. I stepped out onto the front porch with anticipation this morning, and I was ready to meet with the Living God to build my Strength and to get my Marching Orders for Life. I don’t know what’s in store for me on this new day, but I do know that if all is well with me and my soul; I’ll be ready for whatever comes my way. It takes a lot of work to be readied for this Life and when I fail to do the work that it takes to be a Strong Vessel, I flop around like a fish out of water. Instead, I prepare like a Warrior and I do my part to be sure that I’m “like salt of the earth” while I’m here. Isn’t that what you do too?
There are countless analogies in the Bible for the way we are to live our lives as people of Faith, but one of my favorites is “like salt on the earth”. Salt enhances the flavor of our food and salt can be a preservative. When there isn’t enough salt where it ought to be, our food is bland and tasteless and it brings no pleasure to the palate at all. We tolerate food that is lacking in salt and we rarely go back for seconds. The bland has no good impact on us at all and we have nothing good to say to others about it. On the other hand, when we tip the salt too much and we over salt our food, we manage to out-shadow the original flavor entirely. Our food becomes bitter and the delicious can no longer be recognized because the salt has overtaken it. Too much salt can ruin the finest delicacy and the bitterness we taste can cause us to spit it out of our mouths with no desire for more whatsoever. Having just the right balance of salt enhances the food just right, it brings out the best flavor and it causes everyone who gets a taste of it to want to come back for more. For me to be “like salt on the earth” I need to be sure that I find the right balance…not too bland and not too salty and when I do; I know that the “flavor” of my Life is pleasing to the King.
We live in a world with tons of people who have no clue about what it means to be “like salt on the earth”. There are lots and lots of people claiming my Faith that are so bland that the Flavor of Faith can’t be recognized at all, and nobody they encounter wants to come back for seconds. Then there are other people claiming my Faith that pour “salt” on everything and everyone around them and they don’t care if they destroy the Flavor of the Faith at all. The bitterness that streams from them with their heavy-handed Salt shaker causes other people NOT of Faith to spit the Food out of their mouths and they never want to return for seconds. But when people of Faith embrace what it means to be “like salt on the earth” and they work hard to find the Right Balance, their lives are appealing to the world around them, and it’s that Enhanced Flavor of our lives that causes others to want to come back for more. Our Faith is Sweet, and it’s Filling and it should lead the world to hunger for more….WHEN we find the right Balance and we know how to use the Salt.
I’ve found my Balance in the Presence of my God this morning and I’m ready to Enhance my world with my Faith today. You won’t catch me being bland and I’ll be sure not to over salt my world so that the bitterness of my Faith doesn’t cause them to run. I’ll live this day with the “flavor” of Christ that is so sweet and so appealing that the world around me wants to come back for seconds. I’ll be striving to be “like salt on the earth”.
How about you?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. The hint of winter is in the air and it was too cold for me to sit outside for long this morning. But in just the little time I weathered the cold, my soul was warmed beyond measure. My life has been chaotic for weeks and although my time with the Living God never ceases, the time to savor the world around me took a back seat to my busyness and I’ve been feeling the loss. But after just one morning to savor, one more day to take it all in, one more day to focus on His creation, one more day to ponder His Majesty and I am refreshed and revived and full of hope and joy all over again. Isn’t that what savoring Him does for you too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. All of my senses came alive when I met with the Master this morning. The fields were cut yesterday and the smell of fresh cut hay was heavenly. I watched a few deer run across the fields as if they were protesting the cutting of their hiding place. I could hear the cries of a mourning dove and the other birds sounded as if they were trying to keep of with that beautiful sound. If all I did this morning was to give thanks for the Hand of my Creator and all of His splendor it would have been enough for me. But we always have a whole lot more Heavenly business to do especially over things in my life that aren’t so beautiful; so to His Throne I went. Acknowledging the Good is one thing; being willing to seek His Face and to abide by His Instructions over the not-so-good is another. Isn’t that the way you see it too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. The fog is heavy on the fields this morning and it looks a little mysterious because of it. As I met with the Living God this morning I considered the mysteries in life and how difficult the journey would be if I couldn’t trust beyond what I can see. As surely as I know that there is a pond and there are trees somewhere beyond the fog over the fields, I know that there are Plans unfolding for my life and there are results from my efforts for Him far beyond what I can see. What a sweet reminder straight from the Throne of a Mighty God that I need to Trust His Plans and I need to keep persevering through the fog regardless of what I see.
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. I met with the Living God long before the sun rose in the morning sky, and He took me to the Spiritual Woodshed for a little Talkin’ to. One minute I’m praising Him and placing my Requests before His Throne, and the next minute I’m hanging my head in shame over some things that need to be made right. We are more precious than gold to Him, and the only way for those things to ever be made right is if we are willing to spend time with the Refiner and we’re willing to endure His fire. When He reveals these things to us; He’s ready to take us “by the right hand and Lead” us and He’s ready, willing and able to Forgive whatever it is. So off to the Spiritual Woodshed I went, and I’m more pleasing in His eyes now because of it. Isn’t that the way it works for you too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. The cool Fall mornings are my favorites of all, and my time with the Living God at daybreak is even richer when my outer world is pleasing to me. We had a little Business to do on my Heart this morning, and as I called out to the One who Created me; I wept. Everything that came to my mind and my heart made me cry. Happy tears and sad tears and tears of doubt and tears of shame. When I looked up to take in the beauty of the morning, I saw dew dripping down the Christian flag just like those tears dripping down my face. What a sweet reminder from a loving God that my Walk through this Life and the boldness of my Faith will sometimes comes with a few tears. But as surely as His Warmth will dry this flag after just a little time in sun; His warmth will dry my tears too if I linger in His Presence long enough. Isn’t that the way it is for you too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. When I met with the Master as He woke up the world this morning, everything about it seemed muted. From the sky to the colors to the sounds and if not for the cool breeze, there wasn’t a whole lot of “life” to feel at daybreak at all. My naked eyes focused on the fields around me and my focus was on the flaws and all the work that needs to be done to “perfect” my surroundings. But no matter what the morning or my surroundings look like with the naked eye, I KNOW that there’s immeasurable beauty when it’s looked the the eyes of the heart instead. What a sweet reminder from the Living God for me to look past what I see on the outside so that I can focus more on what’s “behind-the-scenes” in in everyone and everything I encounter today. Isn’t that your goal in life too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. I woke up feeling the pain of my laborious weekend, and my mood was inclined to follow what my body feels this morning. I didn’t feel like getting up and I didn’t feel like sitting on the front porch. I didn’t feel like welcoming in the new day and I didn’t feel like filling my soul. But I forced myself into motion to do what I do each day, and after just a little time with the Living God and a little time pondering my Instruction Manual and now; my body may be in slow motion this morning but my soul is full-speed-ahead and my aches and pains won’t hinder what the Master has for me today. Isn’t that the way it is with you too?
Good morning, world. Things are looking pretty good from the front porch of my farm in Virginia today. Fall is definitely in the air, and as I met with the Living God on the front porch this morning I watched nature in-tune with the season. The nearby horses are a little more vocal when the temperatures drop and the deer get busy working on the herd. The squirrels are scurrying to get as many walnuts stashed away for winter as they possibly can and the trees are beginning to shed some leaves. All of nature knows that the time is near for change and they intuitively prepare for what’s coming. What a beautiful reminder for me to do all that I can do to stay tuned-in Spiritually so that I am prepared for What’s coming too.
